Empowering Educators: PAFSE Project’s Innovative Approach to Public Health Education
In an effort to bolster public health education, the PAFSE project has launched a series of valuable resources aimed at teachers’ professional development. These resources include a collection of webinars and workshops now available through an accessible YouTube playlist. The videos feature discussions by experts on various topics such as the cognitive and affective aspects of health during epidemics for students with intellectual disabilities, social determinants of health, vaccine functionality, hesitancy, misinformation, epidemic modelling, sustainable development goals, low-code, and road traffic safety, and others. These themes are also central to several educational scenarios.
The PAFSE project emphasizes the importance of educational scenarios in creating sustainable interactive learning experiences. These scenarios help teachers and educators plan and organize effective learning activities and aid teachers in implementing them. By integrating the ‘didactic tetrahedron’—teachers, students, content, and digital technology—and models like TPACK, these scenarios facilitate learner-centered approaches and critical thinking. Digital technology is used as a cognitive tool, engaging students in meaningful critical thinking through software applications like Digital Learning Objects that they create, modify, or use.
Key tools supporting these educational scenarios include “Photodentro PAFSE,” a European Educational Resource Repository, and “e-me,” a collaborative, social, and extendable Digital Educational Platform. Both platforms offer digital tools that promote interactive learning in STEM approaches.
The PAFSE project’s comprehensive educational materials reflect the consortium’s dedication to supporting teachers and students, especially in the context of ongoing global health challenges. Educators worldwide are encouraged to explore this rich collection of videos to enhance their instructional strategies and contribute to the advancement of public health education.
