“Digital Learning Objects for inquiry-based learning in public health” Workshop at Ioannina, 10-12 November, 2023
PAFSE researchers Dimitris Chalkidis, Georgia Iatraki, Pavlos Gaintatzis and Anastasios Mikropoulos are organizing a workshop as part of the 13th conference “Science Education and New Technologies in Education”, https://synedrio2023.enephet.gr/, Ioannina 10-12 November 2023. The workshop titled “Digital Learning Objects for inquiry-based learning in public health” offers hands-on activities with 24 interactive and dynamic Digital Learning Objects (DLOs). These DLOs encompass simulations, visualizations, concept maps, charts, timelines, and critical source reading. The DLOs are designed to delve into socio-scientific topics related to Public Health and communicable diseases. They emphasize diverse representations of the Natural Sciences and interdisciplinary connections. Four of the DLOs are especially designed for students with mild Intellectual Disabilities. These resources as well as a series of relevant educational scenarios are accessible in both English and Greek through the Photodentro PAFSE repository, https://photodentro.pafse.eu/. The workshop is intended for researchers and educators alike and aims to acquaint participants with the DLOs and how to incorporate them into the context of inquiry-based learning. This involves employing participatory instructional models and techniques such as structured inquiry, guided inquiry, argumentation, problem-solving, and decision-making.
